As a pediatric medical psychologist, Dr. Michelle Zepeda provides specialized and compassionate support to children, teens and their parents, who are navigating the emotional and practical challenges of acute or chronic medical conditions. Evidence-based interventions to help youth cope with recent medical diagnoses, manage chronic pain, adjust to ongoing health conditions, and prepare for medical procedures (including surgeries and needles) are provided. With particular expertise in gastrointestinal concerns, Dr. Michelle Zepeda can address concerns such as chronic constipation, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), cyclic vomiting syndrome, celiac disease and abdominal pain. Dr. Michelle Zepeda works closely with families to build effective coping skills, reduce distress, and strengthen a child’s sense of confidence and control. Dr. Michelle Zepeda provides compassionate, evidence-based parent consultations designed to help caregivers feel more confident, informed, and empowered in supporting their child’s wellbeing. These sessions focus on helping parents understand their child’s behaviour and emotions through a developmental and psychological lens, offering clear guidance on what their child may be experiencing and why. Dr. Michelle Zepeda also works with parents to strengthen the parent–child connection, enhance communication, and build effective, nurturing strategies that foster resilience and healthier family dynamics. Through warm collaboration and practical tools, Dr. Michelle Zepeda helps parents feel supported, grounded, and equipped to make meaningful and positive changes at home.

Dr. Michelle Zepeda uses an integrative evidence-based approach to individualize interventions to best support her clients. She is trained in, and uses evidence-based approaches such as, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), emotion-focused family therapy (EFFT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), trauma-focused CBT, narrative therapy, and motivational interviewing. Dr. Michelle Zepeda is also a certified CONNECT parent group facilitator, which is an attachment-based approach to support parents. The specific therapeutic approach used for each client is tailored to their specific concerns and preferences. Dr. Michelle Zepeda capitalizes on the use of teletherapy (therapy provided online over video conferencing or telephone) to support her clients. She co-developed and published a telemental health intervention for children and adolescents. Dr. Michelle Zepeda has extensive training and expertise in providing culturally sensitive care. She is a published author in providing culturally appropriate psychological interventions to immigrant populations.

The fees for therapy are based on a rate of $235 per clinical hour (50 minutes of service, 10 for documentation), as recommended by the Psychologists' Association of Alberta.

Currently, adelante psychology can provide therapy for children and adolescents up to 18 years old (and their parents), and young adults between the ages of 18 to 23 years old.
